The original Potters Bakery in 1929

1929
Norm and Julia Potter opened Potters Bakery in downtown Traverse City. The original bakery was located at 115 East Front but a fire caused them to relocate to a few doors to the east of what is now the Green House Cafe.

1948
Norm moved the bakery to its present location at the corner of Rose and 8th Street. In the early sixties, Norman partnered with his son Jerry Potter. Jerry opened a second Traverse City bakery located downtown in the orginal Millikens department store. Together, they ran the bakeries until Jerry bought the remaining interest in the mid seventies. Norman and Julia enjoyed keeping a watchful eye on their bakery creations and continued to provide valuable insight.

New Bakery Cafe

In the late seventies
the next generation was being trained to carry on the baker's tradition. Jerry's son, Mike, learned what made this particular bakery a success for so many years. Dedicated people, top quality baked goods and great service!

Today,
Mike and his wife Kathy continue to build on the success that has made Potter's Bakery what it is today. Over the years they have expanded the bakery, adding space and new equipment. Recently they added a "bakery cafe" to the front of their 8th Street location.
