The Beginning

In 1929 Norman and Julia Potter opened the first location in downtown Traverse City. Shortly after opening they had to close up shop due to the sugar rations and  then later reopened. They ran the shop with a handful of employees until Norman partnered with his son Jerry, Mike’s Dad, who owned and ran the bakery into the 50’s when Jerry bought his Dad out and ran the business solo. In 1984 Mike and Kathy decided to keep the tradition alive and ran the business until 
January of 2024. 
Now their middle daughter Becky and her husband Bill are running the business. They are full of ideas and are excited to see what lies ahead in the future!

Becky & Bill


A little back story,

Bill & Becky met at the bakery back when Becky was working on the sales team out front and Bill worked for a local pizza shop. He used to come into the bakery to pick up their sub buns and drink "too much" coffee. Becky would wait on him at the counter until one of her co-workers lovingly gave Bill her phone number. One thing led to another and here they are, partners, and always up for a healthy challenge!

Together they have decided to carry Potter's Bakery into its 4th generation of owners.

Becky has grown up in the Bakery since she was a little tot.

 Bill & Becky were married in 2013 and together they have three children, a pup, chickens and ducks.

They love all things outdoors, gardening, building and community.
